NOT CLEAR Backgrounds in Photoroom API v3 & Studio, Getting Worse Over Time

I’m encountering a very frustrating issue while generating images using both the Photoroom API v3 and the Studio version. The problem is that while the uploaded product subject remains sharp and clear, the generated background is consistently very NOT CLEAR, rendering the final output completely unusable.

What’s more perplexing is that this isn’t just an API-specific problem. I’ve observed the exact same issue when using the official Photoroom website (UI). Furthermore, I’ve noticed a pattern: the first generated image’s background is somewhat acceptable, but subsequent generations become progressively blurrier.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Is there a specific setting I might be missing? Any insights or suggestions would be incredibly helpful.

Hi @MaggieHuang ,

We really appreciate you flagging this with us!

Would you be able to share image examples so we are able to investigate this issue for you?

For the API Calls you are making, if you’re able to also share the API params used, this will help us reproduce and pinpoint any possible improvements on this end.

Thanks again,

@Photoroom
When using the Studio model, the generated background is very cluttered.

@MaggieHuang , if you remove the background seed on your end does the issue persist?

I have ran a few tests on my end and have been unable to reproduce so far.

If you could share a few examples of both the WebApp / API failed examples (with image input and output) I will share this with our internal team.

Thanks in advance

@Photoroom
We tried removing ‘background.seed’, but the image is still blurry.

Abstract scenes have even blurrier backgrounds. Here are some more examples. In these examples, all parameters are the same with the previous except for ‘background.prompt’, and I removed background.seed.

  1. A sleek smartphone, showcasing its slim design and crystal-clear screen clarity, precisely positioned with ample negative space on the left for text. A clean, minimal studio banner setting with a soft white-to-light blue gradient background. Soft, diffused studio lighting with gentle highlights and subtle reflections emphasizing the product’s contours and screen detail, creating a sophisticated and modern mood. Smooth, polished metallic and glass surfaces. Centered or slightly right-aligned composition, eye-level view, sharp focus on the product, high resolution product photography.Negative Prompt:blurry, deformed, ugly, bad lighting, text, watermark, cartoon, anime, unrealistic, low quality, grainy, noisy, cluttered, busy background, dark, harsh shadows, strong reflections, distractions, multiple products, brand logos, distorted, pixelated, abstract, messy, imperfect, low detail

output image: image-1

  1. a modern smartphone, sleek and reflective, resting on a polished dark surface with subtle, abstract reflections. The smartphone is positioned on the right side of the composition, leaving significant negative space on the left for graphic overlay. A dramatic, high-contrast spotlight effect illuminates the device, casting intense, focused light and creating sharp rim lighting. The background is a deep, dark, and minimalist void, emphasizing the product. The color palette is rich in dark tones, charcoal, and deep blacks, with very subtle, cool-toned highlights from the focused illumination. This image embodies a cinematic product photography style, with a powerful and sophisticated mood, high contrast, and a professional studio aesthetic. Negative Prompt:blurry, deformed, ugly, bad lighting, text, watermark, cartoon, anime, unrealistic, poor quality, low resolution, bad composition, messy, distracting elements, oversaturated, blurry background, noise, artifacts, distorted, out of focus, multiple objects, generic, amateur, cheap, poorly rendered, low detail, pixelated, too bright, washed out.

  1. Generate a warm earthy hero background image for a website, showing a minimal gradient backdrop, with subtle texture and ample negative space

output image: image-3

Any chances can we plan a meeting about that ?

Thanks for returning additional image prompt and output examples. I am sharing these internally and will come back to you on any next steps.

Hello @Photoroom ! Last time, I provided specific API parameters and image examples. I’d like to know if there are any new findings or progress regarding the background blur issue I reported. If you need more information, please let me know. I look forward to your response!

Hi Maggie!

Our team is looking at implementing changes to our API to help improve this. I will let you know as soon as it’s shipped.

Thanks again for flagging.
